Monthly Update – October 2014

Fall Festival
We will have a Fall Festival starting at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 1 for ALL AGES. Come enjoy some hot dogs, enter a pie eating contest, bounce in an inflatable, take a hay ride and a lot more. Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend!

Children & Preschool Choir Schedule
Children’s Choir meets on October 22 at 6:30 PM, and Preschool Choir meets at 6:40 PM. We will not meet on Wednesday, October 29. Choir rehearsals will start up again on November 5 at the usual 6:30/6:40 times.

Trail Life USA meets in the FLC from 7:00-8:30 PM each Monday when public school is in session. Upcoming special events include camping trips in November and December. See your Trail Life leaders for more details.

Yokefellow
We are collecting canned sweet potatoes or Yokefellow.

Appalachian Christmas Outreach
The Appalachian Christmas Outreach Backpacks must be completed by Wed., Oct. 29. Please get them to Rita Hollifield or the Sandy Run office. Items include (new) school supplies, small clothing items, toys, hygiene items, children’s bibles, candy and small pop-top canned food. Label items “boy” or “girl” and specify one of the following age groups: 3-5, 6-9 or 10-14. This ministry helps meet the physical and spiritual needs of many children who would otherwise not receive a gift.

Children’s Choir
Children’s Choir meets on September 17 at 6:30 PM. Please note that we will NOT rehearse on Wednesday, September 24. We will resume the 6:30 PM rehearsals on October 1.

southernsoundsquartet2012Southern Sounds Quartet: 20th Anniversary Concert
On Saturday, October 4 at 6:30 PM in the Corinth Baptist Church sanctuary, Southern Sounds Quartet will celebrate 20 years singing gospel music with a concert featuring former members Terry Roach, Ray Wilson, Greg Millwood, Shawn Blanton and Jeff Hamrick as well as current members Russell Reep, David Murray, Gene Shell, Scott Morrow and David Bradley.

Rick Strickland (former tenor with J D Sumner & The Stamps) will be our special guest. Everyone is invited!

Blood Drive
We are hosting a Blood Drive on Mon., Oct. 13, from 3:00 PM until 7:30 PM in the Family Life Center.

Appalachian Christmas Outreach
WOM1 would like to invite you to join in helping support the Appalachian Christmas Outreach backpack ministry. This ministry helps meet the physical and spiritual needs of many children who would otherwise not receive a gift. These backpacks are filled very much like the Samaritan’s Purse shoe boxes with the addition of small pop-top canned food. Items include (new) school supplies, small clothing items, toys, hygiene items, children’s bibles, candy and small pop-top canned food. For more info and a detailed list, see Rita Hollifield.

Monthly Update – August 2014

Awana Club will launch on Sun., Sep. 7 with registration and light refreshments from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Children will have class from 7:00 to 7:45 PM. Parents are encouraged to attend Evening Worship service at 7:00 PM or to visit in their child’s classroom.

Take The Awana Bible Challenge
Kay Conner has challenged all Awana clubbers to read or have someone read to you 8 chapters from any book in the Bible. Write down the name of the book and chapters and have a parent sign a note. Bring the signed note to our first meeting in September for a prize! Invite your friends to join the challenge and fun at Awana Club starting back in September!!

Children and Preschool Choirs
We will resume Children’s Choir and Preschool Choirs rehearsals on Wed., Sep. 3. Preschool meets at 6:40 PM in the Preschool Building and the Children meet downstairs in the same building at 6:30 PM. Preschool Choir is for ages 2-K and Children’s Choir is for grades 1-6. Come & sing with us!

We will be going to the Fall Father/Son camping event at Caraway on Oct. 24 and 25. $70 per person is due by October 5. See Tommy Tisdale for more details.

Fair Haven Sunday School Lessons
Starting in September, Dale Bradshaw will be teaching the Sunday School lesson at Fair Haven on the second Sunday each month. If any Sunday School class would like to participate, see Dale to coordinate a time.

Church Directory
Make-up/re-make dates for the directory photos are Jul. 28-Aug. 2. Call David Murray to schedule your appointment. We will be making photos of Sunday School classes and other groups on Sunday, August 3. If you are submitting any group photos, see David, Chad Medford or Todd Lavender.

Window Replacement Fund
More than 40 windows in our educational & old fellowship buildings need to be replaced before winter! Please designate donations to the “Window Fund.” ANY amount is welcome. For gifts of $250, we will add a plaque in honor or in memory of a loved one. Forms for the $250 contributions are on the offering table. Please complete a separate form for each window. Gifts of less than $250 will be acknowledged in a list in the bulletin once the windows are installed.

Grades 1-6 Summer Events
FUN Night: Wed., Jul. 23 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Wear old clothes and bring a towel. For info, see Kathy Campbell, Trina Smith or Lisa Bradley.
Movie: Thu., Aug. 7 from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM to see Rio in Shelby.
Columbia Zoo: Saturday, August 16 (details soon!)

Fifth Wednesday Meal
Our Fifth Wednesday Meal on July 30 at 6:30 PM will be hot dogs. See Lisa Bradley for more details.

Fair Haven
Tommy Tisdale’s class meets at Fair Haven, Sunday, August 10.

Take The Awana Bible Challenge

Pine Ridge BoysPine Ridge Boys Concert
On Sunday, June 1, we will have a concert at 7:00 PM featuring the Pine Ridge Boys quartet. A love offering will be received for the group. Please invite your friends and neighbors to this event.

Preschool & Children Wednesday Schedule
Parents, please wait until 7:00 PM to bring your children to classes on Wednesdays. No leaders are scheduled to be here for their age group earlier. Choir rehearsals will resume this fall. Thank you!

Vacation Bible School
VBS dates for this summer are Sunday-Thursday, June 22-26. Leaders are needed for Youth, Preschool 2, Preschool 3 and Recreation. Please see Steve or Linda McCurry to volunteer.

Host An Owl!
The Forest City Owls are looking for host-families to provide a place for a player to sleep, shower, eat and do their laundry this summer. Call Denise Holland at 828-245-0000 for more details.

Monthly Update, Vol. 2 – April 2014

day he wore artGood Friday Service at Concord Baptist
The Corinth Adult Choir and the Providence UMC Adult Choir will combine to present an Easter musical titled The Day He Wore My Crown on Good Friday, April 18, at Concord Baptist. The service starts at 7:30 PM. Southern Sounds will also be singing at this event.

Easter Sunday
The Corinth Adult Choir will present The Day He Wore My Crown again at 11:00 AM on Easter Sunday, April 20.

Grades 1-6 Trip
We are going to visit the WNC Nature Center on Saturday, April 26! Meet at 8:45 AM. Bring a bag lunch and money for souvenirs. Admission will be covered by the church. We will return around 2:15 PM.

Annie Armstrong Offering
Our goal for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering is $5000. As of April 13, we had collected $4306. Your gift supports the work of Southern Baptist missionaries in North America. Please give as God leads.

Lord’s Supper
On Sunday, April 27, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper during the Morning Worship hour.

We are collecting tomato soup and chicken noodle soup for Yokefellow.

National Day Of Prayer
Everyone is invited to Crestview Baptist Church at 6:30 PM on Thursday, May 1 for a special National Day Of Prayer service.

Awana
1. Awana Club will not meet on Easter Sunday.
2. We’re having a scavenger hunt on April 27.
3. Meet at 6:00 PM in the sanctuary on May 4 for Awana Awards night followed by an ice cream social in the Family Life Center. We will not have Discipleship Training or Evening Worship on May 4.

Starting this month, we will be posting a list of church events here on the website around the second or third week of each month. This will help give you a head start on announcements and events that may have been submitted too late for the physical newsletter. The regular newsletter will still be mailed around the last week of each month. Please contact the church office with your mailing address if you aren’t currently receiving the church newsletter.

 

AWANA (Ages 2 – Grade 6)
Invite and bring children ages 2 through grade 6 to AWANA Club every Sunday at 6:00 PM. We’ll have a pudding feast March 16 & 23! Mar. 30 is “Rewind Night.” See your AWANA leaders for details!

Trail Life USA Troop NC 12:13 meets here every Monday at 7:00 PM on days when public school is in session. All young men in Grades K-12 are encouraged to get involved. See Tommy Tisdale for details.

Pastor Appreciation Meal

We will be having a Pastor Appreciation Meal on Sunday, February 23 to thank David and Rhonda Jendrey for their ministry here at Corinth these past ten and a half years.

The deacons and their wives will be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers with fixings and desserts. Drop in between 5:30 PM and 7:00 PM.

We will not have regular evening services on February 23.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

Lottie Moon 2014Our goal for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is $8500. This annual offering supports the efforts of Southern Baptist missionaries around the world.

Regular church attendees can donate by using the specially marked envelope in your packet of 2013 contribution envelopes. Of course, anyone can donate by mail simply by designating your gift for Lottie Moon. The church mailing address is: 767 Pinehurst Road, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
